Several students were able to make it to the 50th Annual San Francisco Public Library's Big Book Sale this past weekend! One student made the family outing an all-day event by going to Olive Garden for dinner. Families were able to pick up plenty of wonderful, old books for a dollar apiece! Mrs. Minor ended up leaving the sale with 294 books, filling up 2 shopping carts! She scored a class set of excellent quality dictionaries (Merriam-Webster, American Heritage, & Oxford) and books of quotations---and books on typing, birds, animals in general, ancient history, trees, ponds, and frogs. All these works will help with our new emphasis on non-fiction informational reading.

A New Year!

HELLO PARENTS! PLEASE SIGN UP: YOU WILL BE NOTIFIED WEEKLY WHEN OUR BLOG IS UPDATED.

Happy New Year! And thank you for your patience while Ms. Boissevain and I got the kids settled into their routines. Yes, it takes several months!

We will finish out this year with this URL and plan on having a Boissevain/Minor blog for next year. Posting photos of our classwork/homework board is the easiest way for us to keep up, so that is the procedure. You can also expect to see some fun in-class photos that you wouldn't normally get to see.

Contact us by email if you have any questions: gminor@rcsdk8.net and jboissevain@rcsdk8.net.

NEXT TUESDAY IS THE STATEWIDE 7TH GRADE WRITING TEST! We have all worked very hard all year long and are fully prepared for the challenge. Bring it on!!!

And on Friday, we celebrate all our hard work with the annual End-of-the-Writing-Test Party!!! One of my favorite events, it is organized entirely by the 7th grade students. It is the high point of seventh grade when they show themselves to be a mature, unified team. They always make me so proud! And it is a fitting end to a long journey. We're done with essays: creative writing for the rest of the year!!!

Countdown to the California State Writing Test---21 more days!

2/4/13~2/8/13

Technical difficulties kept me from updating the homework blog, but now I am back on track.

Great news for the new year: our Junior High assignments and grades are available to see on the parent portal of PowerSchool. My goal is to update the gradebook every Monday by 5 pm so that you can see if your child turned in their Spelling homework on Friday and their Reading Logs on Monday. Encourage your son or daughter to look up their grades regularly, as this will help develop solid academic habits and goal-setting skills.

And finally, the Frog Pond Fundraiser raised over $4,800 last week!!! Check out the frog pond website: www.cliffordfrogpond.blogspot.com. Above is the Frog Pond Building Team making some last minute decisions before work begins! Enjoy the photos.
